Recap:

  • Last Tuesday, members of Black Lives Matter - Los Angeles and the Free Ruchell Magee Coalition joined the family of Ruchell “Cinque” Magee to lay his body to rest. Comrade Ruchell was behind the wall for 67 years - the longest held political prisoner in U.S. history.  We never forgot about our freedom fighter. #FreeRuchellMagee was our call for decades. He was released from prison just two months before his passing. During the memorial service, many shared the moments they had with Ruchell, centering his deep love for Black people. Our own Yazmin Monet Watkins offered his tribute poem and Ruchell was buried in a Black Lives Matter lapel pin at his request…a tremendous honor.

  • At last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations rally, Week 142, we continued our call for a “Ceasefire Here and There”, connecting our demands for the removal of police associations from the County Federation of Labor, the firing of LAPD Chief Michel Moore and the resignation of racist, disgraced city councilmember Kevin de Leon to the fight to end the U.S. funding of Isreali genocide against the Palestinian people. The families of #JuanCorrea, #JamesMincey, #JohnathanHart and Earl Callier were present. Kayo sang powerfully. Jan issue our calls to action, and our youth chanted Assata.

  • Last Saturday’s “This Is Not A Drill '' featured “Black Lives Matter: Reports from the Frontlines'', a conversation with Porch’se Queen Miller of Black Lives Matter Atlanta and Jalonda “Justice” Hill of Black Lives Matter Buffalo. Porch’se shared important updates in the movement to #StopCopCity while Jalonda presented the origins of the much needed Black - Palestinian Solidarity Toolkit. Dr. Melina Abdullah hosted, with Baba Akili in the co-host chair. Missed it? Watch here.
