SUNDAY, 1/14/2023 at 7-9PM – BLMLA Monthly Organizing Meeting at the Center for Black Power, 3423 W. 43rd Place, Los Angeles – Let’s claim our victories and chart the course for 2024. Join in the Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in “Beloved Community.” Free, hot, healthy dinner and produce bags provided. ALL Black folks, youth, elders, non-Black people of color, and white allies are welcome. Closed to cops, media, elected officials, their staff, and haters.
TUESDAY, 1/16/2024 at 6:30PM – Torrance City Council Meeting in the Name of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at Torrance City Hall, 3031 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA – It’s been four years, and the City of Torrance still hasn’t created a police oversight body. Demand that they do. Demand justice in the name of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell!
WEDNESDAY, 1/17/2024 at 4PM – #EndPoliceAssociations Rally at 1313 W. 8th St. – Getting rid of Chief Moore was not the last step. Let’s END POLICE ASSOCIATIONS that bully and bribe elected officials, pilfer the public purse, and cape for even the most violent and corrupt cops. Meet us in these streets! Wear a mask. Streamed live on Instagram at @blmlosangeles.
SATURDAY, 1/20/2024 8-10AM – This Is Not a Drill! on KBLA Talk 1580AM or facebook.com/BLMLA – This week will be hosted by Sister Tyler Boudreaux, with Kim Holmes in the co-host chair.
Upcoming:
TUESDAY, 1/23/2023 at 6PM – Los Angeles Police Commission Evening Meeting at Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC), 10950 S. Central Ave. – Out of the people’s demands, the Los Angeles Police Commission committed to move some meetings to the evening to allow for greater attendance by the public that they are supposed to represent. After years of shirking this commitment, they have finally scheduled an evening meeting. Please mark your calendars and let’s plan to show up in force to demand that they #FireTyShelton in justice for #NianiFinlayson.
WEDNESDAY, 1/24/2024 at 4PM – Special #EndPoliceAssociations Rally in Solidarity with the California Faculty Association Strike at Cal State LA, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles – Join the CFA picket line at Cal State LA as we demand an end to police associations, police-free campuses, fair wages and conditions for workers, and strong universities for students.
Recap:
Last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations Rally, Week 152, BLMLA celebrated the vision of the “radical King.” We highlighted the three major evils: racism, militarism, and capitalism. Special remarks by co-founder of Clergy for Black Lives and NAACP of the San Fernando Valley President, Pastor Dr. James Thomas. The chosen family of #VanessaMarquez also spoke out.
Last Friday, BLMLA attended a special hearing of the Sheriff’s Civilian Oversight Commission where, after skirting two subpoenas, Alex Villanueva testified under oath about #LASDGangs. He was lying and whining, but he testified. Streamed live on IG @blmlosangeles.
Last Friday, BLMLA joined the family of #JalaniLovett to celebrate what would have been his 30th birthday. Jalani was a beloved brother and son who was killed inside Men’s Central Jail–the stomping grounds of the infamous LASD gang, The 3000 Boys.
On Saturday’s This Is Not a Drill!, our own Sister Dr. Melina Abdullah hosted with Kim Holmes in the co-host chair as they considered their 2024 intentions. Joining for the #MoreThanAHashtag conversation was Kappa Alpha Psi polemarch Stuart Tooles, father of #StephenRomero.
