Recap:

  1. Last Tuesday, BLMLA and White People for Black Lives came out to the Torrance City Council meeting to continue the call that the city create a civilian police oversight commission in the name of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell. Following the meeting, folks adorned the Christmas tree with “Just-mas” decorations of Christopher’s name along with the names of other lives that have been stolen by Torrance police- #DesireeNicoleGarza, #CarlosPerezVictor, #MichelleLeeShirley, #MichaelDavidLopez, #CharlesWang and #DeautryRoss.

  2. Last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations rally, Week 148, we uplifted the importance consistently staying in these streets to fight against this white racist capitalist system to bring forth Black Liberation and a #FreePalestine as we honored the three pillars of #BlackXmas - #BuildBlack, #BuyBlack and #BankBlack. The family of #JamesMincey was present as members and supporters shared what they were looking forward to in 2024.

  3. Last Thursday in Lancaster, California, our partners at Cancel The Contract held a vigil and press conference for Niani Finlayson, the 29-year old Black mother who was murdered by LA County Sheriff deputies in front of her 9 year old daughter in her home after she called 911 because her boyfriend had abused her daughter. Community gathered to honor her life and demand the removal of all deputies involved and that the Department of Justice and FBI conduct a thorough investigation and evaluation into this incident.

  4. Last Saturday’s “This Is Not A Drill '' was a moving engagement, talking about the History and Power of Boycotts with economist Julianne Malveaux and author Bill Fletcher, Jr. Our More Than A Hashtag with the mother of #GlennFosterJr, ex-NFL player who was murdered by Alabama sheriffs during a traffic stop on 12/6/21. Dr. Melina Abdullah hosted. Missed it? Watch here.

  5. Last Sunday, in partnership with California Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, Special Needs Network and Social Justice Learning Institute, we held Christmas in the Park at the Leimert Park Plaza. Community came together to give away toys, healthcare screenings and childcare supplies/diapers. Kids go to play, enjoy the carnival and meet Black Santa. It was truly a joyous occasion for all.
