Upcoming and Ongoing:
Saturday, July 15, 2023 - Black Lives Matter Turns 10! People’s Justice Festival - Shutting it all the way down in AfricaTown (Leimert Park) as we celebrate 10 years of Black Lives Matter. Let’s mark this milestone! Save the date!
Recap:
Saturday was a day of healing at the Healing and Resource Fair in AfricaTown (Leimert Park) at the plaza. We enjoyed offering our community members impacted by police violence and formerly incarcerated people music, yoga, massages, narcan training, free health screenings, kids art tables, healthy recipe demonstrations and so much more!
During last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations rally, we focused on the true history of Juneteenth and that it was really we who saved ourselves! We continued to uplift the names of those stolen from us through state-sanctioned violence and heard from the families of #AnthonyVargas and #JohnathanHart/ #SkyYoung. We know it is not easy to share your stories and we thank you. Many thanks also goes out to @projectknucklehead for drumming the beat that our souls could rock to!
Last Saturday on This Is Not a Drill!, Sistah Audrena Redmond of BLM Grassroots and BLM-Long Beach hosted a conversation on Black people and pride with Liv Francis-Anspach of BLM-Grassroots and Associate Professor of Africana Studies, Mark Allen Davis. #MoreThanaHashtag conversation with the family of #CordaleHandy.
On Sunday, our Youth Vanguard led a #StopCopCity action at the BET Awards. They engaged attendees and the public about why Cop City must be stopped and, as dark fell, worked with allies to project “Stop Cop City” in lights at LA Live. They also used the opportunity to invite folks out to the #BLMTurns10 “People’s Justice Festival.”
