Recap:
We are overjoyed that a court has ordered the release of Ruchell Magee after 67 years behind bars! Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles is proud to be part of the Free Ruchell Magee Coalition that organized alongside Ruchell to demand that he spend the rest of his life as a free man, surrounded by his loved ones. The coalition will continue to support Ruchell in his return and post updates on social media @freeruchellmagee.
Last Saturday, Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles joined the family of Mely Corado for a Rally of Remembrance at Echo Park Lake. It was a beautiful honoring of Mely’s life and Spirit, lovingly organized by her brother and our comrade Albert Corado and her father. Mely was shot and killed by LAPD while she was working as a manager at Trader Joe’s on July 21, 2018.
At last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations rally, we were led by Project Knucklehead as we drummed for justice in celebration of 10 years of transformational movement work by #BlackLivesMatter! We had free bucket drums for people to join in rhythm and healing justice. The families of #AndrewJosephIII, #VanessaMarquez, #JamesMincey, #DavidSullivan, and #AnthonyVargas were all present.
Last Saturday’s This Is Not A Drill was a lively discussion with LA Times columnist Erika Smith in response to her recent write up of the People’s Justice Festival. Dozens of callers made clear that there is much more ahead for Black Lives Matter Grassroots. Hosted by our very own Dr. Melina Abdullah and co-hosted by Baba Akili. Missed it? Watch here.
