  • TUESDAY, 1/10/2023 at 10AM – City Council Meeting at 200 N. Spring St. – Now that council is back from recess, show up and join community members in chanting BUSINESS AS USUAL = VIOLENCE! Disgraced, racist Kevin de Leon refuses to resign and the city council continues to silence public protest by sending police with riot gear into council chambers. We can not go about business as usual when those who have harmed Angelenos are still sitting on the council. NO RESIGNATIONS, NO MEETINGS!

  • TUESDAY, 1/10/2023 at 9:30AM – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944 Make public comment condemning LAPD for killing 3 Black and Brown Angelenos last week, all of whom were experiencing mental health crises. Our people deserve care, services and housing instead of criminalization and execution by police. #DefundThePolice and reject Chief Moore’s bid for an additional 5-year-term. Coalition talking points here. Please use the “raise hand” function to speak. To participate by phone, call (855) 880-1246, Meeting ID: 289 225 944. Press *9 to be put in the cue for public comment.

Recap:

  • Thank you to all who participated in Black Lives Matter’s annual Black Xmas campaign this past holiday season! Just because the holidays are now over doesn’t mean the movement stops. We are still urging everyone to #BuildBlack, #BuyBlack and #BankBlack. Invest in Black led organizations, spend with Black-owned businesses and also move your money into Black-owned banks like One United. Visit blackxmas.org and for more! And let’s continue boycotting Family Dollar and Dollar Tree in the name of #JaheimMcMillan, the 15-year-old killed by police in Gulfport, Mississippi in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store. Jaheim’s family, BLM Grassroots, Building Bridges organization from Gulfport, and Families United are calling for a boycott of Family Dollar and Dollar Tree.

  • Last Sunday we gathered at the Center for Black Power for the monthly organizing meeting. We claimed our victories of 2022, writing them down for us all to review and celebrate, and discussed our goals, current campaigns and strategies for 2023. 100 dinners and organic produce bags sponsored by the LA County Federation of Labor.

  • We held the first weekly #EndPoliceAssociations protest last Wednesday in the streets at 1313 W. 8th St., uplifting our commitment to keep fighting and keep winning!

  • Last Saturday’s This Is Not A Drill discussed setting our intentions for 2023 with poet Estella Holeman, broadcaster Dominique DiPrima, and spiritual practitioner Eisha Mason. The conversation was hosted by our very own Dr. Melina Abdullah, with Baba Akili in the co-host chair. Missed it? Watch here.

  • Thank you to those who have been sending us tips on where in the world Kevin De Léon is! We’ve followed up on a couple of leads but he continues to duck and hide from the people. Keep sending tips to our DM on instagram @blmlosangeles and on twitter @BLMLA and also text our tip hotline 562-285-6578.
