Weekly Email 1/24/22-1/31/22

This Week’s BLMLA Actions/Events (1/24/2022-1/31/2022):

  • MONDAY, 1/24/2022 at 4:30PM – Demand Justice for #AnthonyMcClain at the Pasadena City Council Meeting on Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/161482446Pasadena City Council isn’t ignorant as to what happened to #AnthonyMcClain but they sure do appear corrupted and bought off by police interests and associations. They continue to put the lives and livelihoods of Black people in Pasadena dead last, if anywhere at all. That must end. That WILL end. Pasadena City Council has EVERY ability to hold its police department accountable and SO THEY MUST.  Place TWO speaker cards with these points: 1) Items not on the agenda: We demand the firing of officer Edwin Dumaguindin, who shot #AnthonyMcClain twice in the back, the firing of Ronald Soreno, who knelt on him, and every officer involved in the cover up. 2) Item #1: In a city that is committed to shirking accountability for the brutalization of Black people, we object to an additional $800k for armored police vehicles. We demand police accountability and the firing of the officers who murdered Anthony McClain. Please submit speaker cards prior to the public comment period at the link here. To participate by phone, call 1-669-900-6833, Meeting ID: 161 482 446. Learn more and find talking points here.

  • TUESDAY, 1/25/2022 at 9:30AM – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944So far this year, LAPD has already requested approval for over $3.9million in grants and donations. This is funding outside of the more than $3 billion they gobble up from the city budget. And LAPD is jockeying for a $213 million budget increase for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. We must raise our voices during public comment to block any more additional investments to LAPD and block the funding for killing and criminalization of our communities. Coalition talking points here. Please use the “raise hand” function to speak. To participate by phone, call (855) 880-1246, Meeting ID: 289 225 944. Press *9 to be put in the cue for public comment.

  • TUESDAY, 1/25/2021 at 6:30PM – Torrance City Council Meeting for #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at TorranceCA.gov and facebook.com/TorranceCA/Torrance police department is being exposed for their racism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism. It’s clear that there needs to be justice and oversight. Make public comment to demand justice in the name of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell: 1) Fire Torrance police officers Anthony Chavez, Brian Kawamoto and Matthew Concannon for the murder of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell, and 2) Establish a civilian oversight commission. To make a public comment during the meeting, call 310-618-2404 or you can email your comment in by 3pm to CouncilMeetingPublicComment@TorranceCA.gov.

  • WEDNESDAY, 1/26/2022 at 4PM (and every Wednesday at 4PM) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – LAPD is jockeying for a $213 million budget increase, in addition to their bloated $3.7 billion budget. Instead, we want the City to fund the things that actually make communities safe: mental health resources, community services, and housing. Come out and stand against the police associations that bully and bribe elected officials into approving budget increases that steal money away from our communities! Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication. Streamed live on Instagram at @blmlosangeles.If you’re in LA, join us every Wednesday at 4 PM at 1313 W. 8th in our fight to End Police Associations!
