This Week’s BLMLA Actions/Events (1/17/2022-1/24/2022):
TUESDAY, 1/18/2022 at 9:30AM – Court Watch at 111 N. Hill St. Dept. 82 – Join us, along with the ACLU of Southern California, and Inglewood residents to block the City of Inglewood from destroying police records.
WEDNESDAY, 1/19/2022 at 4PM (and every Wednesday at 4PM) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – LAPD’s militarism is one of the three evils Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. warned against. The police associations who shield and protect killer cops from accountability, who bully and bribe our elected officials, and who jockey for more than half of the city’s budget, act in direct opposition to Dr. King’s message. Yet, the Los Angeles Police Protective League had the nerve to post a Dr. King quote on their social media. Let’s show all police associations what Dr. King’s radical vision actually looked like and that they aren’t a part of it! Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication. Streamed live on Instagram at @blmlosangeles.
WEDNESDAY, 1/19/2022 at 7PM – How We Block The LAPD Budget Increase on facebook.com/BLMLA – LAPD has killed nearly TRIPLE the number of people in 2021, including 14-year-old #ValentinaOrellanaPeralta and is caught up in countless scandals. Now they want an extra $213 million of taxpayer dollars. This is money that could be used to house people, provide health services, and do intervention work. We can #BlockTheLAPDBudgetIncrease! Join Black Lives Matter-LA, the #PeoplesBudgetLA coalition, activist Shaun King and LA City Controller Candidate Kenneth Mejia for a strategy session.
SATURDAY, 1/22/2022 8-10AM – This Is Not a Drill! on KBLA Talk 1580AM or facebook.com/BLMLA – This Saturday’s This Is Not a Drill will delve into voting rights and what’s at stake right now. Our Baba Akili will be our co-host, with additional guests to be announced. Hosted by our own Sister Dr. Melina Abdullah.
