TUESDAY, 6/8/2021 at 3:30PM – Students Deserve Police Free LAUSD Rally at LAUSD HQ 333 S. Beaudry Ave. – At this Tuesday’s School Board Meeting, the Board will be voting on a terrible resolution drafted by George McKenna that will allow police back on campus. We know that school police disproportionately target Black students and that money could be used towards resources for students. Join Students Deserve this Tuesday and every Tuesday there’s a School Board meeting to demand a #PoliceFreeLAUSD!
TUESDAY, 6/8/2021 at 7PM – Torrance City Council Meeting for #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at TorranceCA.gov and facebook.com/TorranceCA/ – Demand justice in the name of #ChristopherDeandreMitchell, who was killed on December 9, 2018 by Torrance police officers Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon. The officers still haven’t been fired or prosecuted and Torrance still has no civilian review board to hold police accountable. To make a public comment during the meeting, call 310-618-2404 or you can email your comment in by 3pm to CouncilMeetingPublicComment@TorranceCA.gov.
WEDNESDAY, 6/9/2021 at 3PM (and every Wednesday) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – This week’s action will honor the angelversaries of #RyanTwyman and #KeithBursey, two fathers who deserve to be with their children, but were stolen by police violence. It is in their names that we struggle and demand an end to the police associations that protect killer cops. As always, we’ll center families whose loved ones were stolen by police violence. Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication.
THURSDAY, 6/10/2021 at 7PM – This Is Not a Drill! “The Next Chapter for Black Lives Matter” facebook.com/blmla – As Black Lives Matter continues to move forward, let’s talk with the courageous organizers who form Black Lives Matter-Grassroots and are guiding the work. Joining the conversation are Jorden Giger (BLM-South Bend) - Director of Outreach and Angela Austin (BLM-Michigan) - Director of Operations and Policy. Hosted by our own Melina Abdullah (also Co-Director of BLM-Grassroots).
