MONDAY, 6/21/2021 at 4:30PM – Pasadena City Council Meeting on zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/161482446 – The family of #AnthonyMcClain has requested BLMLA support as they struggle for justice in Anthony’s name. Please submit a speaker card prior to the public comment period at the link here. To participate by phone, call 1-669-900-6833, Meeting ID: 161 482 446.
Tuesday, 6/22/2020 9:30AM – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944. During this week’s meeting, the public rejected LAPD’s request for additional funding for reforms and training, demanding more city funds be invested in mental health solutions that do NOT involve the police, in the name of #GrecharioMack. Callers also uplifted the irony of the LA Police Foundation donating $10,000 for nameplates of officers that died during the Spanish Flu pandemic 103 years ago, while LAPD officers have notably refused to wear masks or receive the vaccine during the current COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to demand #FireChiefMoore.
TUESDAY, 6/22/2021 at 3:30PM – Students Deserve Police Free LAUSD Rally at LAUSD HQ 333 S. Beaudry Ave. – The fight continues for a #PoliceFreeLAUSD! Join Students Deserve in demanding LAUSD completely defund school police and invest that money to #FundBlackFutures. TUESDAY, 6/22/2021 at 7PM – Torrance City Council Meeting for #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at TorranceCA.gov and facebook.com/TorranceCA/ – Torrance City Council is voting on a resolution of “no confidence” in District Attorney George Gascón. We need all hands on deck to call in to the Torrance City Council meeting to demand they 1) reject the resolution against DA Gascón, 2) Fire Torrance police officers Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon for the murder of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell, and 3) Establish a civilian oversight commission of over Torrance PD. To make a public comment during the meeting, call 310-618-2404 or you can email your comment in by 3pm to CouncilMeetingPublicComment@TorranceCA.gov.
WEDNESDAY, 6/23/2021 at 3PM (and every Wednesday) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – This week’s action will uplift PRIDE! We’ll talk about the Black queer history of pride, feature Black queer art and Black queer speakers. In addition, we’ll discuss the role of police associations financing the DA Gascon recall efforts and the Measure J lawsuit. As always, we’ll center families whose loved ones were stolen by police violence. Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication. If you’re not able to come out, be sure to tune in to the action on instagram live @blmlosangeles.
THURSDAY, 6/24/2021 at 7PM – This Is Not a Drill! “Fully Funding Measure J” facebook.com/blmla – The latest court ruling against Measure J is a huge blow to democracy. Let’s talk with Measure J campaign organizers Baba Akili, Megan Castillo, and Ron Collins to learn what we can do to protect and fully fund Measure J - which passed by a landslide last November. Voters want to fund the resources that make Los Angeles safe, not corrupt and murderous sheriffs and the largest jail system in the world. Conversation hosted by our own Melina Abdullah.
SUNDAY, 6/27/2021 at 11AM – Justice for #PaulRea 2nd Anniversary – Belvedere Community Regional Park, 4914 E. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90022 – Paul Rea was an 18-year-old Chicano who was killed by East LA sheriff deputy Hector Saavedra on June 27, 2019.
