4/11-4/19/2021

This Week’s BLMLA Actions/Events (4/11/2021-4/19/2021):

  • SUNDAY, 4/11/2021 at 7PM PT – BLMLA General Meeting – Youth Justice Coalition 7625 S Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90001 – Tonight is our first in-person meeting of 2021! The topic for the meeting will be “Organizing for Uprising.” Open to new folks, returning members, ALL Black folks, non-Black allies, youth, elders, and families. Closed to law enforcement, media, elected officials, and haters. Light dinner provided. Donations welcome, but not required.

  • TUESDAY, 4/13/2021 at 7:30am – David Lacey HearingSan Fernando Courthouse 900 3rd St, San Fernando, CA 91340 – ALL OUT TUESDAY MORNING! NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR DAVID LACEY! After Jackie Lacey’s husband, David Lacey, pointed a gun and threatened to shoot BLMLA organizers and allies, he is now asking the judge for anger management under the guise of a “diversion” program, allowing him to keep his guns. We know that if it were the other way around,  prosecution and sentencing would be plentiful and heavy-handed. Join us in front of the San Fernando courthouse for a press conference and rally. There will be a free charter bus leaving from the Crenshaw District at 7:30am. RSVP for details and a seat at: tinyurl.com/busrsvpblmla or meet us at the San Fernando Courthouse at 9am.

  • TUESDAY, 4/13/2021 at 9:30am – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944  – This week the Commission will be considering additional reports that confirm that there were severe abuses of last summer’s protestors by LAPD. Their solution? More money for training...We said #DefundThePolice, NOT fund the police. Let’s continue to demand the Police Commission to #FireChiefMoore! Coalition talking points here. Please use the “raise hand” function to speak. To participate by phone, call (855) 880-1246, Meeting ID: 289 225 944. Press *9 to be put in the cue for public comment.

  • TUESDAY, 4/13/21 at 7PM – Torrance City Council Meeting for #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at TorranceCA.gov and facebook.com/TorranceCA/ - To make a public comment during the meeting, call 310-618-2404 or you can email your comment in by 3pm to CouncilMeetingPublicComment@TorranceCA.gov. Please make comments demanding justice for #ChristopherDeandreMitchell, who was killed on December 9, 2018 by Torrance police officers Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon. The officers still haven’t been fired or prosecuted and Torrance still has no civilian review board to hold police accountable.

  • WEDNESDAY, 4/14/21 AT 3PM (and every Wednesday) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – We’ll be making special prayers on this second day of Ramadan. We’ll also be joining with the families of #GrecharioMack and #KennethRossJr as we honor them for their engel-versaries. We’re taking down the police associations that function as organized crime, enabling killer cops, bullying and bribing elected officials, and criminalizing our people. Gather in front of the ACLU building…directly across the street from the headquarters of the Los Angeles Police Protective League. Bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication.

  • THURSDAY, 4/15/2021 7PM – This Is Not a Drill! “Fortifying Ourselves Spiritually in the Midst of Struggle,” facebook.com/blmla – Prayer and spiritual work is more important now than ever! Let’s hone our spiritual tools as we engage in righteous struggle. Join BLMLA’s own Mama Paula and Mama Zili…our own Sister Melina’s mother, and more to be announced. Hosted by our own Melina Abdullah.

  • SATURDAY, 4/17/2021 12PM PST – National Organizing Call To #ExpandTheCourt on Zoom – How will we ever achieve equal justice under law if the court system itself is unjust? Join Black Lives Matter Global Network, Demand Justice and Sunrise Movement for a national organizing call discussing the urgent need to expand the courts. The event will feature leading court reform champions in Congress, Senator Ed Markey and Representative Mondaire Jones. Learn more about what you can do to show your Congress members that you support #ExpandTheCourt. RSVP at the link here.
