This Week’s BLMLA Actions/Events (10/25-11/1/2020):
· Sunday, 10/25/2020 10AM – GET OUT THE VOTE! in the East LA at El Sereno Community Gardens, 5466 Huntington Dr., Los Angeles 90032 – It’s our first full-on GET OUT THE VOTE RALLY in partnership with Centro CSO and BLD PWR. Join us for a morning of great music, food, and conversation, featuring actor/activist Diane Guerrero, musician Zada, community organizers, and neighbors. We’ll run through the ballot measures and propositions, discuss the importance of our vote and new rules that allow many more people to vote…even if they’re not pre-registered. After the rally, we’ll walk the neighborhood to tell everyone why #JackieLaceyMustGo.
· Tuesday, 10/27/2020 at 9:30AM – Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting on Zoom at https://lapd.zoom.us/s/289225944 – 734 complaints of racial bias against LAPD were filed in 2019. After LAPD investigated itself, 0 were sustained. In fact, a preliminary review of reports seems to indicate that LAPD has not sustained a racial bias complaint since 2013. · Tuesday, 10/27/2020 7PM Torrance City Council Meeting for #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell at TorranceCA.gov and facebook.com/TorranceCA/- To make a public comment during the meeting, call 310-618-2404 or you can email your comment in by 2pm to CouncilMeetingPublicComment@torranceCA.gov. . Please make comments demanding justice for #ChristopherDeandreMitchell, who was killed on December 9, 2018 by Torrance police officers Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon. The officers still haven’t been fired or prosecuted and Torrance still has no civilian review board to hold police accountable.
· Wednesday, 10/28/2020 at 3PM – #JackieLaceyMustGo Demonstration and March to the Polls, meet at Hall of (In)Justice, 211 W. Temple, DTLA – Bring your ballot and wear your walking shoes! We’ll rally with the families of those killed by police, lifting up the names and Spirits of the 622 people killed by police on DA Jackie Lacey’s watch. She refuses to prosecute the police who kill our people in just about every case! For more on why she must go, visit jackielaceymustgo.org. Together we’ll take a walk to a ballot drop off location and VOTE HER OUT!
· Thursday, 10/29/2020 7PM – This Is Not a Drill! “Get Out the Vote!” facebook.com/blmla – Join us as we talk about why it’s essential to VOTE AND ORGANIZE with Cecily Myart-Cruz (President, United Teachers – Los Angeles and BLMLA), Audrena Reddock (Black Lives Matter-Long Beach) Angela Austin Waters (Black Lives Matter-Michigan). · Saturday, 10/31/2020 6PM – GET OUT the Vote Outdoor Community Movie Night at Leimert Park, 3333 43rd Place, Los Angeles 90008 – The Black Lives Matter-Youth Vanguard has some Halloween fun planned! Join in for free dinner, treats, swag, and outdoor community viewing of Get Out, all as we rally folks to the polls. Lots of surprises in store! Don’t miss it!
· Sunday, 11/1/2020 12 Noon – Get Out the Vote Rally at the Crenshaw-Baldwin Hills Mall, 3650 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (Walmart upper level parking lot, enter from Stocker) – In partnership with BLD PWR, we’ll have food, entertainment, speakers, and great energy as we rally for justice and get out the vote! Lots of surprises in store. After the rally, let’s walk the neighborhoods and inform our folks about the terrible record of the current District Attorney and why #JackieLaceyMust. · Sunday, 11/1/2020 4PM – Dia de los Muertos at Self-Help Graphics on YouTube – BLMLA’s Arts and Culture team has lovingly constructed an altar as part of Self-Help Graphic’s annual commemoration to honor our loved ones who are no longer living. Join the virtual program via youtube.
