The Black Panther Party said it in 1966. They struggled alongside students; non-Black communities of color and radical White folks joined in, and the people won Black Studies and Ethnic Studies as one of their most enduring victories of the era. Ethnic Studies is the only set of disciplines to come from the community, not the ivory tower. It remains grounded in principled struggle and is vital to our self-determination.
