TUESDAY, 10/29/2024 at 9:30AM - Los Angeles Police Commission Meeting at LAPD HQ 100 W. 1st St. - Join the LAPC Fails Coalition, including Black Lives Matter-LA, Stop LAPD Spying, White People 4 Black Lives, LA CAN, and allies, as we show up and call out the LA Police Commission for refusing to hold killer cops accountable after they steal our loved ones and take much-needed resources away from our community. Join us in the struggle by making your voice heard during public comment. DEFUND THE POLICE!
Tuesday, 10/29/2024 at 2:30PM - Oppose the Appointment of Jim McDonnell as LAPD Chief at City Council Public Safety Committee, 200 N. Main St., Council Chambers (3rd Floor) - Tell the City Council Public Safety Committee that the community opposes the appointment of Jim McDonnell and put our voices on record.
Tuesday, 10/29/2024 at 6PM - District Attorney’s African American Advisory Board at WLCAC, 10950 S. Central Ave - Our very own Prince Akili will speak at the forum to discuss how the DA’s Office has and can incorporate the interests and needs of Black communities. Wednesday, 10/30/2024 at 8:30PM - #KDLMustGo Action with Women’s Organizations, 1862 E. 1st St., Los Angeles - Stand with Black Women for Wellness, Women’s March Action, and journalist Jasmyne Cannick to fight back against Kevin de León and make clear that behavior like his hiring of Najee Ali - a known misogynist, police “consultant,” and woman beater - is unacceptable.

Recap:
Over the past month, BLMLA has supported the family of Sky Young, a young Black man tragically killed by Donald Vincent Ciota, a Walgreens security guard in Hollywood. Last week, Ciota was found guilty of second-degree murder, marking a significant victory for the family. Sentencing is set for December 9th.
Last Wednesday, BLMLA held Bruce’s Vigil at Ted Watkins Park, honoring Bruce Phillips, the late husband of Sister Helen Jones, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run two years ago in Watts.
Last Tuesday, BLMLA and allies, including LA Students Deserve, Youth Justice LA, and White People 4 Black Lives, joined forces for the #StopCopNation Day of Action, mobilizing against police brutality and demanding justice on the National Day Against Police Brutality. The day included a 9 AM press conference at 100 W. 1st St., a City Council meeting at 10 AM at 200 N. Main St., a rally to #EndPoliceAssociations at 1 PM on 1312 W. 8th St., and the Protect Black Student Achievement Plan Action at 3 PM on 333 S. Beaudry Ave.
Last Saturday, This Is Not a Drill! aired on KBLA 1580 AM, was hosted by Joseph Williams and co-hosted by Kim Holmes.
