Recap

  • Last Wednesday, Black Lives Matter-LA stood with our beloved Dr. Melina Abdullah for a press conference condemning Cal State LA President William Covino enabling  campus police to violently remove Sister Melina by from the mayoral debate hosted on the campus. The press conference was co-convened by the California Faculty Association, the NAACP, and BLMLA, and supported by allied faculty, student organizers, clergy, and community. They issued demands for Cal State LA President William Covino to step down remove police from campus, and make Cal State LA events accessible to the students, faculty and community.

  • Last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations rally honored the mothers who have to fight for justice while also grieving the loss of their loved ones stolen by police violence. We came together in beloved community and gave the mothers revolutionary love while protesting the police associations that block them from receiving any type of justice for losing their loved ones. The mamas and aunties of #WakieshaWilson, #JohnHorton, #AnthonyVargas, and #DavidSullivan were all in attendance. We got a chance to shower them with a little Mother’s Day love.

  • Last Saturday’s This Is Not A Drill on KBLA Talk 1580AM discussed Black Revolutionary Mothering, with Dr. Melina in conversation with her mama,  Linda “Zili” Blackston, Trudy Goodwin (Mama Tru) and Paula Minor (Mama Paula)! What a tremendous conversation about the power of Black mothering! Missed it? Watch it here.

  • Last Saturday, Black Lives Matter-LA hosted a Community Care clinic at Norman Houston Park for Black mamas, other mamas of color and mamas who lost a child or partner to mass incarceration or police brutality. Mamas came out and received healing justice, enjoyed community, a food truck with delicious vegan food, yoga, massage, acupuncture, reiki, mutual aid bags and so much more.
