Recap:

  • Last Wednesday’s rally focused on the criminal system of injustice and the vile role of police associations. Artistic expression included a soul stirring drum circle from Project Knucklehead along with a profound African history lesson and kora performance from Master Fore Sissoko, a descendent of Mansa Musa. We were joined by the families of #AnthonyVargas, #DanielHernandez and #VanessaMarquez.

  • Sunday was the definition of what it means to #BuildBlack. BLMLA and the Black Lives Matter-Youth Vanguard partnered with OUR Assemblyman Isaac Bryan, SEIU 2015, AFSCME 3299, Social Justice Learning Institute, Africa Town, Black Women For Wellness, Special Needs Network and David Gross, along with a tremendous team of volunteers and sponsors, to support Black businesses and vendors (#BuyBlack) and shower more than a thousand of our folks with gifts, resources, groceries, and love.

  • Last Saturday’s This Is Not a Drill! on KBLA Talk 1580AM discussed local struggles for reparations, with a report from Evanston, Illinois where the City enacted the first reparations program to Black residents. The conversation was hosted by our own Sister Melina Abdullah and featured Baba Akili of Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles, Sheryl Davis of the San Francisco Human Relations Commission and Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Dean of Ethnic Studies at Cal State LA College. And our #MoreThanAHashtag segment featured Sheila Arnold, mother of #BrandonLewis.
