#EthnicStudiesYes Assembly Bill 1460? Justice Deferred!
Despite our best efforts, AB 1460 — which would have made Ethnic Studies a California State University requirement — did not make it out of the California Senate Appropriations committee.
It has been made a “two-year bill” (meaning this bill carries over from the first year of session into the second year of the session), which is pushing the fight off to another time.
Before we learned of this setback, the CSU Academic Senate (which vigorously opposed our bill) said that they were committed to building an Ethnic Studies requirement not imposed by the legislature. Let’s hold them to it.
Thank you to all who lobbied, made calls, sent emails, and pushed for AB 1460. We will continue our work, knowing that it is a long struggle. When we fight, we win. Onward!
