Recap:
Last Monday, the BLMLA-led People’s Budget LA coalition called into the City Council’s Budget & Finance committee meeting to demand Paul Krekorian agendize Mike Bonin’s #NoNewCops motion. If passed, this motion would eliminate the LAPD practice of hiring above attrition and divest $18 million from policing. This is money that could be used to fund mental health services, housing services, and other services that actually keep our communities safe. Stay tuned for upcoming actions to support the motion by signing up for updates at peoplesbudgetla.com, following @BLMLA on instagram and @blmlosangeles on instagram.
Last Wednesday’s #EndPoliceAssociations, honored the life and legacy of General Jeff and the work that he did to demand City officials “Fund Services, Not Police!” The families of #PaulRea, #MelyCorado, #VanessaMarquez, #JohnHorton spoke, and community members paid tribute to General Jeff.
Last Saturday’s This Is Not a Drill! on KBLA Talk 1580AM talked about the Pasadena police cover-up in the murder of #AnthonyMcClain with Caree Harper, attorney for the family of #AnthonyMcClain, James Farr of The Conversation Live, Kareena Kirlew and Michael Williams of Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles’ Pasadena Team, hosted by Melina Abdullah. Missed it? Watch here.
Last Saturday at Chuco’s Justice Center, BLMLA supported the Rally for Stolen Lives hosted by Essie Justice Center. #DanaMalikYoung is one of the 939 Lives Stolen by LASD whose spirits were uplifted at the rally on the weekend of his angelversary, to focus on the fight for justice and accountability. There were speeches from impacted families and activists fighting for change, music, a community resource fair, childcare and free food.
