Join Christophher’s family and BLMLA in demanding that the officers be fired and that Torrance City Council finally create a civilian oversight commission of the police department, like they were told to do about 6 months prior to the murder of Christopher in 2018. WEDNESDAY, 10/20/2021 at 4PM (and every Wednesday) – Fund Services, Not Police! #EndPoliceAssociations at 1313 W. 8th St., Los Angeles – All around the world working class people in unions are standing up for fair wages and better working conditions, in what is being called "Striketober." As history shows, police actively work against the interest of the working class by arresting strikers and their supporters. That’s why this week’s theme will uplift the importance of Supporting REAL unions NOT Police associations. As always, we will make space for the families whose loved ones were stolen by police violence. Wear masks and bring your bodies, spirits, energy, drums, signs, flags and dedication. If you’re not able to come out, share the flyer widely and engage in virtual protest by tuning in to the action on Instagram Live @blmlosangeles.
THURSDAY, 10/21/2021 at 9AM – Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission at https://bit.ly/3mXZgfh – After Sheriff Alex Villanueva ignored previous subpoenas to appear before the Civilian Oversight Commission, he will be attending this week’s commission meeting after being forced to do so with the threat of being in contempt of court. Other agenda items include hearing from undersheriff Murakami who was also subpoenaed to testify regarding Villanueva’s “secret police” and harassment of oversight officials. There will also be a discussion regarding LASD deputy presence in Antelope Valley schools, in response to a sheriff deputy recently body slamming an Antelope Valley high school student. Make public comment by registering and joining at https://bit.ly/3mXZgfh or submit written public comment in English or Spanish by completing this form. Follow @CheckSheriffLA on twitter and instagram for toolkit and talking points.
THURSDAY, 10/21/2021 at 12PM – People’s Budget LA Twitter Storm at tinyurl.com/pbla-nonewcops – Join the People’s Budget LA coalition for a twitter storm demanding City councilmembers urge Budget & Finance Committee Chairman Paul Krekorian to take action and agendize the Mike Bonin #NoNewCops motion. We’ve emailed and called Krekorian’s office, and yet he refuses to listen to the will of the people and even put the motion on the agenda. Time to turn up on him! Use the toolkit and talking points.

Join the Stop LAPD Spying coalition for a protest downtown against police brutality and the harm of the police state. The protest will begin outside of the LAPD headquarters on 1st Street, followed by a march around downtown, and will conclude with a screening of a film outlining the ways in which police surveil, terrorize, brutalize and kill our people.
