The South Bay's Biggest Story of the Decade is the Murder of Christopher Deandre Mitchell
The suburban city of Torrance, California is not normally a hot bed of news or attention, but that all changed when the Torrance Police Department murdered an unarmed motorist and refused calls for civilian oversight. The Daily Breeze has the story (from a certain point of view):
Protests have continued unabated, with demonstrators calling for the establishment of a police oversight commission.
The protests have also changed the tenor of council meetings, which one protester observed used to hand out milk and cookies on occasion.
Now residents have found access to City Hall tightened considerably, with formerly open doors and windows closed and guarded by police, more surveillance cameras in place and other additional security measures implemented.
There is little chance that protests will stop until there has been justice for Christopher Deandre Mitchell and the officers in question (Matthew Concannon and Anthony Chavez) are disarmed and removed from service.
