Jackie Lacey Must Go: 100 Weeks Of Protest Against The Beleaguered DA

Black Lives Matter Los Angeles is committed to the long struggle to curtail state sanctioned violence against Black people. A big part of that has been our consistent protest against the Los Angeles County District Attorney, Jackie Lacey.

Two of our members stand strong outside of the District Attorney’s office, demanding the official’s ouster.

Mrs. Lacey should be someone we would look up to — the first woman and the person of African descent to ever serve in the role since its creation in 1850. Unfortunately, her behavior has shown that she’s more intent on protecting the status quo than the citizens of the county. More than 540 people have been murdered by the Los Angeles Police Department, and her office has prosecuted only a single one.

Since October of 2017, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles has protested at the doorstep of Jackie Lacey’s office. The families of many of the slain -- including but certainly not limited to those representing #QuentinThomas, #KishaMichael, #ZelalemEwnetu, #AJWeber, #KennethRossJr, #DonteJordan, #LionelGibson, #CesarRodriguez, #EdwinRodriguez, #RedelJones, #ChristianEscobedo, #EzellFord, #KendrecMcDade, #KeithBursey, #RyanTwyman and #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell -- have been on hand to express their outrage over the District Attorney’s seeming indifference to the value of Black life.

This week, the families and loved ones of #JohnHorton, #GrecharioMack, #AlbertRamonDorsey, #LeeJefferson, #JesseRomero, #EricRivera, #WakieshaWilson and #AnthonyVargas will be on hand to join us in protesting Mrs. Lacey.

This milestone is not a celebration: spending 100 weeks in blistering sun and pouring down rain, asking for a Black woman to do her duty, is not what any of us want. It’s where we are, and more importantly, where we will be until Jackie Lacey is driven from her office because we do not believe she is fit to serve.
