Recap:

  • Last Tuesday, the LAPC Fails Coalition, including Black Lives Matter-LA, rallied at the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting at LAPD HQ. This was in response to the LAPD’s recent killing of a Black man, marking the 9th murder and 19th shooting by LAPD this year. The coalition demanded accountability from the commission for their continued inaction on police violence.

  • On Wednesday, the #EndPoliceAssociations rally took place at 1313 W. 8th Street. Led by BLM Youth Vanguard and Students Deserve, the rally highlighted the need for essential educational resources and opposed the presence of school police. The event underscored the call for full funding of the Black Student Achievement Plan and stood against the Los Angeles Police Protective League.

  • Last Saturday's edition of "This Is Not a Drill!" on KBLA 1580 AM honored Black August, focusing on political prisoners. Hosted by Joseph Williams and Amara Kioni Abdullah, the show explored the significance of the month and featured conversations with Comrade Harold Welton of the Black Panther Party and our own Prince Akili - co-founder of the BLM Lancaster Prison chapter, and Marshe Doss of the BLM Youth Vanguard. Missed it? Watch here or listen to BLM’s This Is Not a Drill! wherever you get your podcasts.

  • On Saturday, BLMLA co-hosted a Karaoke Night with KRST Unity Center. This joint fundraiser was a vibrant community event featuring karaoke, dinner, and drinks. Attendees enjoyed a night of fun while supporting a good cause!

  • Last Sunday, BLMLA core organizers Baba Akili and Sister Melina joined BLM ATL in demanding that Cicley Gay - one of the thieves who stole Black Lives Matter’s resources, platforms and good name and now serves as Chair of the (BLM) Global Network’s Board - return what belongs to the movement. Sister Erica of BLM ATL  and mother of #QuandavierHicks led the call out in front of Cicley Gay’s mini-mansion in the wealthy Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta. Catch it all on Instagram @blmgrassroots.
